  讲座摘要:The theme of this lecture is "What is Market Manipulation? Lessons from Barclays and Powhatan". At the first, Professor Kleit defines manipulation as “profiting by changing the price of financial assets”, then he reviews economic theories of manipulation and introduces a squeeze theory with its implementation in a natural gas matket. Secondly, two problematic cases named ‘Barclays’ and ‘Powhatan’ are discussed in detail. Barclays is a sort of market manipulation cases that traders held numbers of index contracts hence to short the relevant supply in market and pump up the index price. The Powhatan cases describe the behavior of making profit thougth vitrual power. Finally, some suggestions are proposed.

  主讲人简介:Andrew N. Kleit is energy and environment professor of Penn State University, Ph.D of Yale University,Dr. Kleit's role in the department is to research and teach the interaction of weather and economic markets. His current research is focused on weather risk management and electricity markets. His teaching interests include weather risk management and the economic implications of weather. Dr. Kleit is the Program Officer of the EMS College's undergraduate major in Energy Business and Finance.
