  讲座摘要:In this paper, we utilize Taobao data to examine how online sales are affected by three different information sources for logistics services: online word of mouth (WOM) about logistics performance, self-proclaimed logistics services, and expected delivery time. Based on the accessibility-diagnosticity framework, we propose that the impact of logistics information depends on its relative diagnostic value. After controlling the endogeneity issue between sales and WOM through an instrumental variable method, we find that, ceteris paribus, consumers give more weight to WOM about logistics performance and delivery time when they make purchase decisions but less weight to self-reported logistics service. The effects of logistics information on sales are asymmetric for large sellers and small sellers. The implications of our empirical results for sellers and e-commerce platforms are discussed.

  个人简介:Huan Zheng (郑欢) is an Associate Professor of Management Science in the Antai College of Economics & Management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She received her Ph.D. in Decision Sciences from National University of Singapore. Her main research interests include process flexibility, supply chain management and optimization. She has published in Operations Research, Productions and Operations Management, INFORMS Journal on Computing, and other academic journals.
